do-it-yourself headboard

I wanted to paint and make over our bedroom for a very long time:
the paint colour was boring beige, the curtains were too long, the bedding pattern was driving me crazy, the bed was on wheels–so every time you go into bed it would roll a foot from the wall, and the the lamps were cheap and falling down all the time…
it was time for grown up bedding, grown up lamps, a real headboard, and a fresh coat of paint.

I had the house to myself this weekend, so I thought, why not try to do it all myself in a weekend, spoiler alert… I did it, well sort of, with a little help from my old man.

I really enjoyed doing this…but now it’s time to go to bed.

the feeling of home.

Today I am thinking about home.

What does Home mean?

On the surface home is physical space–a residence in which people live. Home is a building. Home is a place, with a mailing address and a spot on a map.

It is a place where people live and store things.

Where you display your collections and your junk.

It is a place that you maintain: fixing, repairing, renovating, and decorating.

It is also a metaphorical space– a place of refuge. A place where a person can truly be themselves. Often referred to as:

Feeling at home: familiarity, comfort, and belonging.

It is place where people feel safe.

It is the center in which people base their daily lives.

it is being completely comfortable with the one person you share this feeling with.

it is being completely yourself.

it is a place where your deepest feelings, thoughts and desires are disclosed.

it is a place of creativity.

it is having a dog that looses his mind when you walk in the door.

it is a place of sharing with friends and family.

It is the best place in the whole entire world.

Drawing Furniture

It’s a very snowy blowy day in Saskatoon.. to resist falling asleep tonight at my 12 hour shift at work.. I decided to finally draw some custom pieces for the house that I have been meaning to do for months…

Hale Navy, A Benjamin Moore Paint Color is the inspiration for the two pieces:b6557040db2003930e356e49234e095e
