The Real Santa.

A little this, and a little that. I really enjoy decorating for Christmas.

I love this time of year… singing Christmas music… decorating the store, and my home…. baking… spending time with family…
I also love that I get to bring Santa back out. This painting of “Santa” has been a great focal point for our Mantel the last few years. I painted it in University… and others may have their own interpretation, but this was a real model, and he really did have a beard like that, and a red and white striped shirt. He was Santa in the off season.

Adding in colour. & being Thankful.

A little more work. & being Thankful.

I love long weekends. It’s enough time to be lazy and productive.
Feeling thankful for this extra time to work on my art—and clean the house (I even clean and organized my kitchen cupboards), spending lazy time napping on the couch, baking, family, reacquainting myself to tea time, cuddling with my dogs, appreciating fall colours, my handsome man (who drew and painted too for the first time in a long time!). 🙂

Summer Road Trips.

I love Road trips in the summer: The excitement of packing up the car filled with clothes, food, beer, and the possibility of going somewhere other than the daily routine. We gathered the dogs in the car and left the city.
This was Ty’s first road trip.
He was a little confused as to why it took so long to get where we were going, but when we got there, he was very happy: A dog’s dream… So many smells, so many things to discover.
Ruby Lake: possibly the best place on earth.

I enjoy it there so much: reading, eating, drinking, thinking, relaxing, spending time with family, it’s always fleeting though, back to real life.

do-it-yourself headboard

I wanted to paint and make over our bedroom for a very long time:
the paint colour was boring beige, the curtains were too long, the bedding pattern was driving me crazy, the bed was on wheels–so every time you go into bed it would roll a foot from the wall, and the the lamps were cheap and falling down all the time…
it was time for grown up bedding, grown up lamps, a real headboard, and a fresh coat of paint.

I had the house to myself this weekend, so I thought, why not try to do it all myself in a weekend, spoiler alert… I did it, well sort of, with a little help from my old man.

Time & Space.

Does the address really matter?

The location, the square footage, the design, or the details…
or just the feeling?

there are basics to houses like having the rooms that one needs to ‘live’: a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and a living room….

but what makes it a home?

we go beyond to want something that feels safe, comfortable, and structurally sound.
A place to relax in, a place to be creative in, a space to work in, to hang out in, a space to entertain in, an outdoor space, and a place to store and display our things too!

We spend so much time, money, love, in these spaces we call home.

The amount of space we need is dependent on maybe—what we grew up with to expect, or maybe what we think we can afford, or even what we can actually afford, and ultimately timing in our lives.

Making a house/a home is something that can be done to just about anywhere…

Maybe it’s all just a state of mind.

Could i, you, we, be happy there?

I imagine myself, my life, our life, there…. what would be different?
