I wanted to paint and make over our bedroom for a very long time:
the paint colour was boring beige, the curtains were too long, the bedding pattern was driving me crazy, the bed was on wheels–so every time you go into bed it would roll a foot from the wall, and the the lamps were cheap and falling down all the time…
it was time for grown up bedding, grown up lamps, a real headboard, and a fresh coat of paint.
I had the house to myself this weekend, so I thought, why not try to do it all myself in a weekend, spoiler alert… I did it, well sort of, with a little help from my old man.

Before. These were cute for a while, but would always fall down. A $3.00 Value Village Purchase
Before.
The process:
Start with sheet 3/4″ Select Grade (Smooth of plywood, cut down to size… For a King Bed I Cut it down to 36″hx80″l (It’s also a great idea to have a helper, hi Scooby!)
Use a piece of 2″ general purpose foam and get it cut 1″ larger than your plywood, so there is a 1/2″ overhang
Next, layout your batting
Cut Batting about 4″ on each side
Nap time.
Get your fabric roll out! I ordered 3 yards 54″w x 106″ of fabric
Layout fabric, and decide how you want it to be laid out.
Trim the fabric about 4″ on each side. Put a couple of staples in where you want, and then flip the whole thing! (Scoob is keeping me company, but is really is the laziest helper.)
Now that you are flipped. Begin lining up and stapleling. You will want your pattern to be consistent so staple at the same part of the pattern each time.
Staple, Staple, Staple.
The Corners are a little tricky, fold it over and cut excess fabric
Pull nice and tight and staple!
Trim excess fabric. (You can even use the plywood to rest this tutorial on your laptop!)
Next, measure the distance you want the hardware to be to hook it on the wall.
Screw the hardware into the wall.
Screw it in.
Now you are ready to hang! Oh Wait, you are a wimpy girl…. You might need some help with this! No Matter how determined you are, this is a two person job!
Dad to the rescue!
The results:
Spray painted the knobs too!
yep, that’s my heart on the wall. spray painted these frames too!burlap & fresh flowers.
I really enjoyed doing this…but now it’s time to go to bed.
